Tree of Life
The Tree of Life pendant from ANTIKA is an elegant design that is timeless. It makes a perfect gift with its wonderful symbolism and depth of history - appearing as early as 850BC.
Our Tree of Life pendant is a round sterling silver piece of jewellery in 20mm diameter, with a cut-out Tree of Life motif. The pendant is hung on a sterling silver chain in 42cm or 45cm length.
The concept of Tree of Life has been used in mythology, religion, iconography and biology. Today, it is used as a symbol of love, a symbol of life and the universe, and some believe it is the origin of the Christmas Tree. In biology, Tree of Life is a metaphor for the interrelatedness of living things through evolution.
According to Encyclopædia Britannica, the tree of knowledge, connecting to heaven and the underworld, and the tree of life, connecting all forms of creation, are both forms of the world tree or cosmic tree. In the Bible, it's a tree in the Garden of Eden, a mystical concept within the Kabbalah, and a motif in pre-Columbian Mesoamerican and Norse mythology.
The tree of life has been portrayed in culture and fiction - often being portrayed as immortality and fertility - and for Disney, it's a motif for Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park.
A Tree of Life is a theme of clay sculpture created in central Mexico, originally for the teaching of the Biblical story of creation to the early colonial period. Today, modern sculptures of trees are created with themes completely unrelated to the Bible.
